Midnight’s Nightmode Brings Private DeFi Across Chains Learn Crypto Podcast Listen on Spotify

Midnight’s latest ecosystem update brings several parts of its privacy strategy into one picture: a roadmap for Q4 2026 and Q1 2027, selective disclosure through Midnight Passport, cross-chain privacy through Nightmode, and easier wallet access through Dynamic.

The practical theme is simple. Blockchain applications need useful privacy without forcing people to abandon the assets, wallets and networks they already use. The update also carries an important safety reminder: verify projects, teams and websites through trusted sources before connecting a wallet or responding to a request.

Disclosure: Peter is a paid Midnight Ambassador. The views in this article and episode are his own.

A roadmap built around practical privacy

The official Midnight roadmap sets out work across confidential finance, digital identity, cross-chain development and proving infrastructure. An accompanying Midnight roadmap thread describes seven areas of work intended to make privacy practical on-chain.

For institutional users, that includes infrastructure for activities such as tokenised deposits, stablecoins, real-world assets, issuance and settlement. For retail users, the episode highlights the importance of keeping trading, lending, collateral, liquidity and payment activity from becoming an unnecessarily complete public record.

This is not privacy as a single feature. It is a set of tools that must work across identity, applications, assets and the infrastructure beneath them.

Selective disclosure without oversharing

Midnight Passport is presented as a way to prove a particular fact without revealing every detail in an identity document. Peter uses a familiar example: proving that you are old enough to enter a venue should not require handing over your name, address and every other field on a driver’s licence.

That distinction matters online as well. A privacy-preserving identity system should let a user prove the attribute an application genuinely needs while withholding unrelated personal information. The roadmap places that selective-disclosure model alongside broader application and infrastructure work rather than treating identity as a separate problem.

Starstream and Nightstream

The episode also discusses Starstream and Nightstream. Starstream is described as a consistent runtime environment intended to help applications work across chains. Nightstream is presented as part of Midnight’s next-generation proving infrastructure, with Peter highlighting its intended role in preparing for future security requirements.

These are technical components, but the user-facing test is straightforward: can builders deliver private applications across ecosystems without creating a fragmented or confusing experience?

Nightmode as a privacy switch

Nightmode, built with Sig Network, is the clearest example of that user-facing approach. It aims to extend Midnight’s shielded privacy and selective disclosure to assets and applications on public chains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and Tron.

Peter compares the intended experience with turning on a VPN. Instead of moving everything into an unfamiliar environment, a user would activate a privacy layer while continuing to work with the wallet and ecosystem they already know. The official Nightmode article provides the project background, while a supplied Tron wallet demonstration shows the intended toggle-style interaction.

The demonstration is important because it moves the idea from an abstract privacy promise towards a recognisable wallet experience. The episode says a Tron release is targeted for December 2026, so viewers should confirm current availability through official Midnight and Tron sources before treating that timing as final.

Dynamic and Fireblocks lower the access barrier

Midnight has also been integrated into Dynamic, a Fireblocks company that provides non-custodial wallet infrastructure. Dynamic supports embedded wallets created through email or social login as well as external wallets.

The goal is to make access feel more like familiar single sign-on. A user could move from an email address or an existing wallet to a shielded transaction without installing another piece of software. Teams already using Dynamic across EVM networks, Solana, Bitcoin, Stellar, Sui, TON and Aleo can add Midnight through the integration they already maintain.

That does not remove the need for careful wallet security, but it could reduce one of crypto’s persistent adoption barriers: asking users to understand a new wallet stack before they can try an application.

Privacy, public discussion and personal freedom

At TOKEN2049, Fahmi Syed framed the core problem directly: public blockchains can expose too much information. His presentation connects Nightmode with Collateral Warehouse, Offer Files, Midnight Passport, AI agents and the wider roadmap.

The update closes with Midnight’s Freedom Fighters series featuring Leopoldo López. The four-part series follows his account of Venezuela’s descent into autocracy, imprisonment and efforts to protect democratic freedom. It places the privacy discussion in a broader human context: privacy can affect whether people are able to organise, speak and prove who they are without exposing everything about themselves.

Stay cautious while the ecosystem develops

The Midnight Foundation’s safety reminder advises users to verify projects, teams and websites, watch for impersonation and suspicious requests, and pause when something does not look right. That guidance is especially relevant when new wallet features and integrations are attracting attention.

Use official links, check the domain before connecting a wallet, and treat unexpected requests for funds or sensitive information as a warning sign. A privacy feature cannot protect a user who has authorised the wrong website or signed a malicious transaction.

Hey everyone, I’ve got a massive Midnight ecosystem update for you all, everything that is happening in the Midnight ecosystem around privacy, selective disclosure, and all that really good stuff. But first off, before we get into any of that, just a word of warning here. The internet seems to be falling apart at the moment.

Vulnerabilities being discovered everywhere in every single aspect of our daily lives online. So if you’re interacting online, just be extra vigilant because things could very well be compromised at the moment. So we don’t know how much or how big these compromises are going to be, but it’s overall really big, so just be careful, guys, of what’s being going on online at the moment.

But let’s get into the news updates around Midnight for you guys. So first off, we’re looking at the roadmap that has been delivered. This came out last week, and there’s a lot of really exciting things coming out, a lot of technical things as well over this quarter, Q4 of 2026, and also Q1 of 2027 next year.

So let’s have a look at some of these, things here. You can look at the roadmap website and break down each one of the verticals and see what’s coming out for each one of those aspects, everything from Night Mode to institutional, on-chain liquidity and assets. Let’s have a look at the X thread here, which will take you through each one of these pieces here.

So first off, the institutional issuance and settlement. So this is really important because this is where a lot of the on-chain activity is going to come from. This is where blockchain and cryptocurrency is going. So when we see Midnight bring in the required infrastructure for tokenized deposits, stablecoins, RWAs, we’re in a really good position.

So this is all the things that are needed to bring all this data and on-chain, but also keeping it all private. Now, they’re doing this also for the retail side of things, so people that are doing trading, lending, collateral, liquidity, provisioning, payments, keeping that all private is really important, and they’re bringing that all on-chain as well with, transactions and histories all being shielded.

So that’s really important, really good to see that, retail users aren’t being left behind there too. The other aspects here is around identity and disclosure there, so we’re bringing in the Passport SDK that we have access to right now. So if you are building on Midnight, you can have access to the Passport SDK and start integrating that in.

But it’s all about proving something without giving someone too much information. So let’s say you have your identity, your passport, your, your driver’s licence. You want to prove how old you are, but you don’t want to show that person your address where you live, and that’s a level of privacy that’s quite important.

So you go to, a nightclub, for example, and you show the bouncer your driver’s licence. It has all that information there, your name, your birth date, your address, and at a glance, the bouncer could go, “Great. I know exactly where you live and who you are now,” when the only thing they should need to know is how old you are and that you are the actual person or holder of that driver’s licence.

So selective disclosure, very important for privacy and protection of the various people that are needing that level of privacy. So we’re gonna see more of that, and we’re gonna see implementations of that. It’s gonna be really cool. Next, we have the scaling sovereignty, which is always important, the reach cross-chain and developer growth, so it will make it easier to build these types of dApps within the Midnight ecosystem across all different chains.

And then these two aspects here, Starstream and Nightstream, these two are extremely important in that, one, Starstream will allow you to have a consistent runtime environment for applications, so you build it within Starstream and work across any chain, so that’s really important there for our cross-chain compatibility. And then you have the Nightstream side of things, which makes it all quantum proof.

Next era of computing is coming, and we wanna ensure that everything is as safe and secure from quantum computers. They are going to be able to break into a lot of these other chains that aren’t quantum proof, and having Midnight quantum proof is really important, so we’re gonna see that come into play as well with Nightstream.

So I’m really excited about that. Now, if you want to go further and deeper into the, roadmap, link’s down below for you guys so you can dig into it and learn about what’s happening there. Now, the next aspect here is Night Mode. They, they’ve been talking about this for a little while, but Night Mode is essentially a switch that you can toggle within any ecosystem that you’re in and have private transactions and selective disclosure.

So imagine you’re using a VPN and you want to protect your internet activity. Whatever you’re doing online, no one should actually know what’s happening. Your ISP, your internet service provider, shouldn’t be tracking that either. So turning on a VPN by toggling a switch hides all that activity and keeps your online activity private, and I think that’s a good thing.

Now, to be able to do that within the DeFi space and, blockchain space is also going to be really cool. So imagine being able to connect your MetaMask wallet, your Cardano wallet, whatever it is, and be able to toggle a switch and turn on Night Mode and have everything that you do from then on private.

It may take a little bit longer because it’s being routed around through the Midnight chain and having all your transactions privatized there, but because of that, you have that level of privacy. And to be able to do it this way is really important too because it’s just a toggle of a switch. Makes that user experience really easy.

So this is the type of experience that we’re going to see with Night Mode and bringing it onto all sorts of different ecosystems. If you wanna learn more about it, I’ll put a link to this video here by David Miller Durrant, the founder of Sig Network, and talking about Night Mode there as well.

Now, you may have seen Charles post this video about Midnight and Tron. Now, this is essentially what you’re going to see. So have a look at this. So I don’t know if you can see that there, but this is like a Tron wallet. You got that Night Mode there. Toggle that switch. There we go.

And now whatever you’re doing within that wallet is private. VPN for DeFi. That’s what it describes. So I’m really excited about that whenever it’s going to come out. Apparently, this will be ready for Tron December this year, so about a month and a half from the recording of this video. So stay tuned, guys.

We’re in for a very interesting update with Night Mode and what it’s going to bring to the entire cryptocurrency space. Now, if you want to learn more about it as well, I’ve got this, blog post here that you can read into Night Mode, how it works, and all that stuff, so do check that out too.

Now, the next one here I want to talk about is Dynamic by Fireblocks and this partnership between Midnight and Dynamic. Now, Dynamic is a integration of non-custodial wallet infrastructure and what it delivers for Midnight. Now, if you are using various dApps, applications, whatever it is, you may see something really simple as in log in with Google or log in with Facebook or log in with Microsoft, whatever it is.

That’s called single sign-on, and it’s made the logging into various websites really easy with one click, and if you’re already logged into your Gmail account, your Google account, it will log you into this application, that website, whatever you’re using, within a couple of clicks, and you don’t need to create a brand-new password or an account or anything.

It just shares it from Google over to the application that you’re logging into. So it makes it really easy. Now, that same experience is what you can get within the crypto and DeFi space. So you log in with your MetaMask wallet, you log in with your Cardano wallet, and it gives up just your public key, which, you can see on chain anyway, and uses that as your identification, and then your, signing password, which you sign on your side, on the client side, will allow you to log into that, particular application with your wallet.

So this brings in a whole lot of integrations that are available to all these different ecosystems. So Dynamic works across the EVM space, Solana, Bitcoin, Stellar, Sui, TON, and Aleo. So all that is automatically enabled with this integration with Dynamic and Fireblocks. So this partnership with Fireblocks that, happened this year has opened up so many doors for the Midnight ecosystem, and it’s not just Midnight.

Cardano’s taking advantage of that as well because they paid for the integration with Fireblocks. So we’re gonna see more and more cross-chain compatibility because of all that. Now, why it didn’t exist before, I think it all came down to cost and who was going to pay for the integration. Now, with a lot of the other chains here, the EVM space, Solana, Bitcoin, et cetera, et cetera, they have massive amount of users, so for Fireblocks to not integrate them would be at their disadvantage.

But the Cardano ecosystem is smaller, it’s isolated, and it’s only itself. So for example, like, the EVM space is a replication of itself and is multiplied across multiple different chains, so integrating one EVM chain, which means you integrate all of them. So that’s why EVM had first preference, because it had the most reach.

But with the Cardano side of things, with Midnight side of things, we have to pay to play, and, as a result, we had to fork out more money to actually get integrated in. But as a result, we now have a lot more cross-chain compatibility with this log in with Midnight capability now. So because that, we can now integrate in with Solana, Bitcoin, Stellar, Sui, and any other EVM chain out there, TON, or even Tron, I’m assuming is, integrated in there as well.

So we’re gonna see more of that, and we’re gonna see more chains come in and say, “Hey, this Midnight thing, how do we integrate it? Oh, it’s already integrated with Dynamic. All we have to do is turn it on as an option within Fireblocks.” And there we go. So really good partnership there, and that’s why it’s so important to get more of these partnerships, even if we do have to pay for them to be able to get this, cross-chain compatibility.

Now, this one here I thought was quite important, and this is the presentation that Fahmi did at Token twenty forty-nine. So there was a lot of really cool stuff that came out of this presentation. I already talked about, the Collateral Warehouse in one of my previous videos, and we talked about Midnight Passport, AI agents, and all that stuff.

But he also talks about Night Mode, Offer Files, and the Midnight roadmap as well. So if you want to get a rundown about, his presentation here at Token twenty forty-nine, link’s down below in the show notes for you guys. Do check it out. Do watch it. It will give you a really quick summary, and it’s only 16 minutes long, okay?

So do watch that video. Now, the last one here I have for you guys is a brand-new campaign that is coming out from the Midnight team, and this is Freedom Fighters. This is all about Leopoldo López and his quest for democracy in Venezuela. So Venezuela is descending into an autocracy, and his years of imprisonment and a fight to protect freedom.

So it talks about his fight for freedom in Venezuela and, what Midnight could possibly bring in terms of privacy for its users and challenging autocracies around the world. So this is a very, very broad view of what, selective disclosure, what Midnight and what privacy can actually bring to help users within, the democratic space.

So if you want to watch that, it’s, online at the moment. You can watch, all the episodes there, so you got episode one. I’m wondering if they are releasing each episode sequentially over time, but it’s all online now. So you can watch, all those episodes. Again, I’ll put links down below for you guys if you can watch it.

They aren’t very long episodes, but you can go through episode one to four, binge-watch them. But you can watch all the videos and learn about Leopoldo’s fight for freedom and, democracy in Venezuela. All right, guys, that’s all I have for this particular video update. If you liked it, make sure you hit that thumbs up, like, subscribe, and notification bell down below.

I’ve got YouTube memberships, great way to support the channel, and I’ve got Buy Me a Coffee link there as well. That’s a really simple way. Just click Buy Me a Coffee and support my caffeine addiction. I’m on energy drinks at the moment, so it’s very much needed when producing these videos. Now, like I said earlier in the video, the internet is compromised at the moment, so be extra vigilant in what you’re interacting with.

Maybe stay off DeFi for a while if you’re playing around the DeFi space, and double-check what websites you’re connecting with and what wallet you’re actually using as well. So make sure that everything is secure as possible. If you haven’t got a hardware wallet, I’ve got links to hardware wallets down below. Maybe not Ledger at the moment, but Keystone is definitely a really good wallet, so do check that one out.

Try and stay positive, guys. I’ll see you in the next video.
