Cardano Turns 9: How This Blockchain Changed My Life
Episode by Peter Bui on September 24th, 2026
Cardano has reached its ninth birthday, marking nine years since the mainnet first started producing blocks. For Peter, this milestone is not just about the chain itself. It is also a chance to reflect on five years of building, learning, creating content, running a stake pool, and becoming part of a global ecosystem.
This short episode is a thank-you to the developers, early stake pool operators, educators, builders, and community members who helped make Cardano what it is today. It also looks ahead at the next stage, with scaling work, DeFi activity, app education, and new builder opportunities starting to line up.
Nine Years Since Mainnet
Peter opens by looking back to the moment the Cardano mainnet started producing blocks. That launch represented years of effort from the people who prepared the network, built the early tooling, and worked through the harder parts of running infrastructure before the experience became easier for later operators.
He notes that running a node today is far simpler than what the earliest stake pool operators and developers had to deal with. That foundation matters. Every newer SPO, educator, app builder, and user benefits from the work that came before them.
Five Years In The Ecosystem
Peter also reflects on his own Cardano journey. Five years ago, he did not expect Cardano to become such a major part of his life. Since then, he has created Learn Cardano content, built tools, run meetups, interviewed builders, operated in the ecosystem, and become both a Cardano ambassador and Midnight ambassador.
The episode is personal because Cardano has become more than a blockchain topic. It has led to events, friendships, interviews, technical learning, and new opportunities, including time in San Francisco through the DraperU programme.
For me, Cardano isn’t just a blockchain, it’s essentially my life these days.
What Comes Next
The reflection also turns toward the future. Peter points to Hydra, Peras, and Leios as important scaling work for the Cardano ecosystem. These are part of the broader set of upgrades and infrastructure improvements that can make the network more useful for applications and users.
He also highlights dApps, DeFi liquidity, Alpha Growth, DraperU, and ecosystem education as pieces that are starting to come together. The message is not that everything is finished, but that more of the missing foundations are being worked on at the same time.
That combination is why Peter remains optimistic about Cardano’s next few years. After nine years of persistence, the ecosystem has more builders, more support structures, and more opportunities than when many community members first arrived.
A Thank-You To The Cardano Community
This episode is ultimately a thank-you. Cardano’s ninth birthday is a moment to recognise the people who did the early work, the community that stayed involved, and the builders still pushing the ecosystem forward.
For Peter, the milestone is a reminder of how much can change in five years, and how many new opportunities can come from joining an open ecosystem and staying involved.

So 9 years ago today, the Cardano blockchain turned live. Staple operators and developers watched as the Cardano mainnet started producing blocks, and this is such a memorable moment because so much time and effort had been put in place to get to that point, and to watch the mainnet actually start producing blocks was absolutely amazing. Now, I joined the Cardano ecosystem 5 years ago, and all of that work that those developers did over the years to make things easier for me as a Staple operator to come in, I am so grateful for. Running a node these days has been so, so easy compared to what they went through setting up their very first nodes.
But for me personally, 5 years ago, I had no idea that I would be where I am right now, having a YouTube channel, having developed things within the Cardano space, being a Cardano ambassador, a midnight ambassador, and doing all these things in the ecosystem, it’s been crazy. I’ve been to so many different events, I’ve run meetups, I’ve met so many people in the ecosystem and interviewed just as many. It’s been absolutely crazy, and having opportunities now thrown at me such as going to San Francisco under the DraperU program has been amazing. I’ve grown so much over the years, I’ve learned so much, I’ve made so many connections and so many friends.
It’s been a life-changing experience. For me, Cardano isn’t just a blockchain, it’s essentially my life these days, and I am forever grateful for all the work that people have put into this chain to get it to where it is now. And I’m so excited for what’s coming next. We’ve got Hydra, we’ve got Paras, and we’ve got Laos, all for the scaling, and that’s literally all just around the corner.
We have dApps building on that. We also have dApps that are working with Alpha Growth to bring in the DeFi liquidity and activity that we need within the ecosystem. Everything that’s been missing is finally coming into place. We have DraperU and the Ryan program, the Ryan Fund, coming in and help educating the ecosystem on what is an actual scalable and investable app that we can actually build within the space.
We have so much going for the ecosystem at the moment that I can’t see Cardano ever failing, and the next few years are going to be absolutely amazing. So it’s been a marvelous nine years for the Cardano blockchain, and it’s going to be an absolutely amazing many more years to come. So I’m forever grateful for these opportunities within the Cardano ecosystem and what has come up and what we will see in the future as well. Anyway guys, stay positive and I’ll see you in the next video.
